I completely agree that people don't pay enough attention to history.

A great poem to look up (which I wish I could find) is "Skunk" by Robinson Jeffers. This poem is all about history and how we don't learn from it...

yesterday this post was spammed by special interest group advocating the removal of the electoral college.

I have seen those replies on other blogs, and don't appreciate a 2500 word screed over 8 replies making their point.

I did keep a copy and will send it to you on request, and will probably post some of it this weekend if I have time.

more later.

excellent post Libra. I was raised Presbyterian but my parents and then I found the PCUSA just too political for a church - and recently I've found a home in a small Methodist Church, but have not joined... The Pastor today (also a woman) - asked for prayers for both 43 and 44.

No surprise that your sentiments reflect mine; we are all a product of our environment, and that said I believe our President Elect is a good man.

I do worry about the entitlement generation we have become; and now it's clear our social security "pension" will likely not be available when I retire in 10 years or so. California is already talking about writing IOUs for Income Tax refunds - that won't buy anything.

From what I've read - and I'm no economist; these are our problems...

1) we've learned that companies can be too big to fail - therefore they should be deemed too big to exist.

No company should be too big to fail if it has failed practices.

2) we've created a culture of entitlement and this administration in front of us will be a facilitator of that entitlement. They will "couch" it in terms of larger government but re-read item #1.

I am working with some families with acreage to put in a vegetable garden, and saving as much money as I can, and thinking about what I can do on my own more rather than rely on others... I can only pray the worse will be inflation where I can get a good return on CDs like we did with the Peanut man in the 70's.

Just don't know. I seriously think this will get much worse before it gets better.

Thanks for the post - I need to start blogging again, but like you - I've been in a funk, and trying to catch up on my real job.

no, he'll never play his senior year, no need to. It was lucky for IOWA and good on him to get his life straight and give us this great year.

Hope he gets 100 against MINN next week, then a decent BOWL representation.

Go Greene!

His play was #3 on best plays from Saturday shown on ESPN this AM. Was watching while getting ready for church and they mention Iowa - and Shonn Green and I'm like "I know about him - that's Carolyn's guy!" Good for him. The ESPN guys were speculating whether he'd play for another year or go to the NFL -- what do you think?

In my humble opinion -- MMM should take a page from candidates of old who would run a few times before sometimes being elected. She should stay active and keep her name out there and build up more public awareness -- she only be a stronger candidate for the next campaign!

Excellent article with many good and valid points -- some stronger than others. And - if people think only a O bash fest than look to how the writer dissed McCain and Palin...shows objectivity...something the American Media is sorely lacking and lost completely.

How long do you think it'll be before people start to realize what/who America voted for?

yes, this will do a lot of good things for recruiting with the coverage of the game...

and if we can win out - it could be a good bowl game in Iowa's future.

I wonder how people will travel with the economy.

Sounds very promising!!

Good point about the incumbent not showing own internal polling numbers.

And nice endorsement which can only further help your gal! Having Grassly's help in the final few days should help getting the vote out at least.

Any other backlash from the woman in the State Rep party who had a "conflict of interest" ?

I know how hard you have worked and hope your gal gets it done!

Honestly, I don't know how people could send back those to Congress who have not done anything for them at home.

Excellent post! I was always on the Powell bandwagon till he said he felt somewhat an obligation to vote for Obama - because he's black and Powell can't forget where he came from. Apparently he forgot who the people were helped Powell get to where he went. And Powell has gone against his own principles along the way.

the MSM isn't carrying anything from what I've seen but I was in Iowa City all day today - MMM was in a forum with her three opponents today and then at a Central Committee meeting so I'm just catching up on the news.

yes, Palin is carrying a gun correctly.

algore while serving as a journalist in Vietnam could have well had his head blown off as seen in this archived picture that had wide distribution during his presidential run in 2000. That is a picture of algore.

Well -- this is like "when pigs fly" two in a row -- OJ gets convicted and Palin is forcing MSM/CNN/et all to cover her comments which brings up the questionable associations. That's all I'm asking for an equal coverage of both candidates -- pros/cons/backgrounds/associations/experience/achievements, etc....

Well we have enough $ to push media through the month and she's working as hard as she can to meet as many people as she can.

We had a good day in town last week meeting with some democrats...

one vote at a time.

Need to write letters to my family in the district next.

my candidate is doing ok. going for some newspaper endorsements so speaking to some boards... Debates coming up ... still can't get her opponent here, but she's thinking or a town hall...

Iowa is Blue. don't see that changing.

don't know what to think of the polls. I do think there are Dems that are going to NOT vote for Obama - that could skew things. How much? We need to get close first.
