I'm having friends over also but I don't think they can stay to see the speech (10 pm EST). While I am excited - I still worry. I hope people give her a fair shake.

My candidate is walking on air; Palin was one of the reasons my candidate ran, she's been following her career in Alaska.

(T. Boone Pickens)

We're talking about watching her speech together with friends as she'll be in the area on WEDNESDAY.

(Cubs won 3-2 today)

Just want to keep you up on all the news - 7th straight win.

very good post

woo hoo! Can I claim a bit of pride for calling for this pick a while ago? Am doing a happy dance with my two prosthetics and two walking canes.

Yes, to be fair - there will be cons to this pick and I just read a board where there was such cynicism about Palin's pick - that McCain was desperate and grasping for HRC's supporters. It boggles the mind that people are so extreme and not willing to have a civil debate about the pros and cons of the candidates without resorting to insults and narrow thinking.

Obama's camp has already come out dissing her for "small town" politics. That certainly won't play well in "small towns." Yes, there is a "lack of foreign policy experience" but she is not at the head of the ticket and should she unexpectedly rise to the top spot after the election - McCain's cabinet would already be in place - the ones needed to have the background to advise. And let me remind folks that my guy, Truman, while a longtime Senator, as VP did not have any insider knowledge of FDR's plans -- for the A Bomb or dealings with Russia following the war. Harry Truman had a lot to catch up on upon being sworn in. To this day there are people who praise and condemn him for using the bomb and those who praise (for stopping the advancement of Communism) and condemn him for involvement in Korea.

Biden does have more foreign policy experience but yet people have consistently condemned VP Cheney for the past few years for "running the show." I thought people wanted the President to be in charge and on that front - the President does have the advantage on experience. And more importantly - she has Executive experience.

I'm not sure how or what the concern is about her son having Down's Syndrome. I would find it appalling if they slammed her for having her son despite knowing he would have Down's. I have often said, most recently today, that I could have been aborted easily if tests existed in 1967 that would have clued in doctors and my biological parents (who gave me up). While I am "pro-choice" I am not for indiscriminate abortion as birth-control and am certainly not for partial-birth abortion.

Governor Sarah Palin has MORE experience in bipartisanship than Obama I believe. And she has succeeded in big reforms, including an ethics bill which neutralizes that "accomplishment" off Obama's slim resume

Has called for new energy sources which every American should know by now that we desperately needs. Even T-Bone Pickens (is that his name?) is calling for while we start drilling. If we had drilled 10 years ago while calling for new energy sources we might not be in such a bind now.

Loved that she stopped the "bridge to nowhere" - porkbarrelling waste that McCain has always been outspoken on. What are IL's pet projects that Obama has shepherded through and/or not stopped?

Also has a son serving in the military and that fact neutralizes Biden's having a son who may or may not go over to Iraq. He can't claim that he'll be the only one who understands what it'll be like to have a child in harm's way (though the McCain's son is also serving I believe).

Palin has gone to Germany and seen our troops in the hospital (Sorry - am still ticked that Obama didn't do a non-campaign stop while over there doing his big speech).

I am so impressed that McCain didn't do the "safe" choice and went outside the box and shows his true maverick style. I'm excited to see the substance she'll bring to the campaign.
