I just want a (R) in the WH in 2009.

Most Dems think you're right, they will pressure HRC to step down.

how about this LOL http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=29237&only&rss

It would be very interesting to see a brokered convention -- not having seen one in my lifetime (Republican Conv in 1976 I guess was the last "nailbiter" of sorts, right?) ...

I think Dem leaders would be stepping in before this happens and pressure HRC to step down if she is still behind. HRC lost (potentially still but most likely) a superdelegate today since Gov. Spitzer will likely resign.

Having David Paterson become the 1st Black governor of NYS could only elevate BO I believe.

If the first ballot does not nominate a candidate, all delegates are free to vote for anyone on subsequent ballots.

Typically a consensus candidate comes out of the woodwork - because of the hotly contested race, both current candidates lose power...

The last brokered convention I think was Adlai Stevenson in 1952 for the Dems (I LIKE IKE). In this political climate it could be bloody. Clinton has to think of legacy at this point... how bad does she really want it. Both have said they would not accept a VP position but that's typical when running, really running, for #1. (compared to Huckleberry who was always running for #2)

you don't need an organization to win a brokered convention you just need to appeal to that party's delegates. The delegates DO typically vote as a block by state - but I would question even that now - not sure that the DEM party rules are. (and we know how Dems are about rules - vote in MICH, revote in MICH...)

the bloodier the better IMO.

I haven't paid REAL close attention to the #s, but what I recall is that the super delegates could swing the election and there are 80 that have not committed (committing is not formal - those currently committed can still change their minds).

But IIRC, Clinton can't win without Super delegate help - Obama can. -pf

So how would this work re: Gore? He could come in at the last minute - no organization and take the Dem nomination?

check your private email...

If McCain keeps his temper and stays on his game, he'll be ok against either Obama or Clinton.

It looks to me that the Democrats are heading toward a brokered convention in August. Can they reunite in the two months before elections?

Political wisdom is saying if Clinton muscles it out - the younger crowd that Obama is bringing into the Dem party will desert Clinton. Obama is starting to crack under moderate press review - will the MSM ease up on him if he gets the nomination soon?

We shall see. pass the popcorn. -pf

Go Mac!!

Bush had a good line today at the news conference re: picking a VP -- he said (paraphrasing) to be careful who he picks as head of the search committee!

I worry still about the Dems -- if HRC comes out on top == she'll have tremendous momentum and it reminds me of the comeback kid (Bill) winning it all in '92 (shudder at the memory). And now -- I think HRC has poked some good holes in Obama's aura that McCain can use.

What do you think?

well there is little choice. I'm just still a little mad that Rudy never got the traction he deserved.

politics is not that different from what I remember in the 70's but quick access to news allowed media bias to win the day - for now.

I posted an article that says sound bytes are 4 time shorter than they were years ago. people don't have time to sift through the facts, they allow the media to tell them the media's perception of truth. all pretty sad.

This election cycle has a long way to go... a lot could happen between now and November. I'm very active on some local efforts and not prepared to worry about presidential politics right now.

I'm so glad to see you coming around to McCain ... though I am worried about his chances in the general election.
